7 Steps to a Pain Free Life

Pain suffers know that chronic pain can control every aspect of their life. It can rule every thought because the pain is persistent and sometimes intolerable. Having chronic pain can confine the pain sufferer to their home, not allowing them to enjoy life. If pain has taken control of your life, it is time to change the way your pain has been managed. Dr. Albert Schwitzer, a 20th century humanitarian, said that pain is a more terrible lord of mankind than even death itself. By following these steps it could easily reduce or even eliminate pain.

Step 1 - Knowledge

Understand exactly what pain is and how the body and brain communicate with each other. When the body is injured a message is sent to the brain and the brain signals back to the body that it hurts, making the injured person aware there is a problem. The healing of an injury will relieve the pain that accompanies it, however, chronic pain sufferers need to learn how to influence and interrupt these signals. By thinking of the pain in a conscious and intentional way it can change the mind’s interpretation of the pain signals and alter the response to them.

Ask your doctor to test for the source of the pain by getting an x-Ray, CT Scan, EEG, EMG, MRI, Radionuclide Scan, SPECT, or Ultrasound.

Step 2 – Getting Your Mind off the Pain

The brain can be a powerful tool in controlling your pain. By using these techniques, the mind can be successful to control or overcome pain:

Meditation – When resting and relaxing the mind, the body will follow. Rest is one of the most important methods for healing and relieving pain. Meditation reduces stress, anxiety, enhances the immune system, lowers blood pressure, and reduces muscle tension.

Guided Imagery - this technique is used to visualize a pleasant image to keep the sufferers mind focused and off the pain.

Step 3 - Exercise

Exercise increases the production of endorphins, natural pain relieving chemicals. These endorphins also help with depression and anxiety that accompany chronic pain. By strengthening the muscle and, more importantly, the inner core, pain will be reduced significantly over time.

Step 4 - Foods that Ease Pain

Calming – Garlic, onions, mushrooms, soy, ginger, clove, and spearmint.

Elevate Mood – green leafy vegetables, legumes, fresh ginger, garlic nuts, seafood, and nutrient rich carbohydrates.

Brain Food – Protein, fructose.

Inflammation and Circulation – cold water fish, flaxseed oil, green vegetables, ginger, garlic, potatoes, leafy green vegetable, blueberries, raspberries, apples, oranges, and pineapples.

Blocking Pain – hot chili peppers, dates, currants, apples, and berries.

Antioxidants – carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, watermelon, apricots, pumpkin, strawberries, broccoli, red and green peppers, and soybeans.

Step 5 – Touch

Touch creates an overall sense of well being physically, mentally, and emotionally. Massages, acupressure, and hot and cold treatments can relieve pain.

Step 6 - Medical Treatments

Some chronic pain patients need outside help and need prescription drug pain relievers. Also explore surgical options, ask your doctor about electrical stimulation, psychotherapy, or physical therapy.

Step 7 - Lifestyle

Quit Smoking - smoking depletes the body of essential nutrients and invades it with poisons.

Sleep – Sleeping 8 hours a night enables the body to heal and recharge.

Emotional Support - Isolation produces depression and feelings of hopelessness which will exacerbate the feeling of pain. Keep in touch with friends and family and join a support group.

By implementing these seven steps there will be a gradual improvement in chronic pain sufferers and provide a better quality of life.

Your welcome. There are so many foods, teas, and spices that can help with ailments. Its becoming more commonly known but people like "quick" fixes and some dont have the money to eat the foods they should. Carbs are cheaper than vegies and meat. I sure hope our economy gets better soon.
